Oreste's Kisses

Who is in the mood for a kiss?
Orestes LOVES kisses, especially receiving them.
Those smoochy cuddles that make you wag your tail.
Our dear reindeer is very affectionate and would like to give at least one kiss to each of you.

However, since she can't get to everyone, she thought of a better idea: why not cook them?
And then EAT them?
Eating is always the best solution. And these kisses are the best in the world!

Oreste's Kisses

Ingredients:

  • 100g walnut flour (or hazelnuts/almonds)
  • 100g of sugar
  • 100g of softened butter
  • 125 of flour
  • 50g dark chocolate

Mix flour, butter, sugar, and nut flour quickly in a bowl (the butter should be worked as little as possible) until smooth and consistent dough.
Let the dough rest for at least half an hour in the refrigerator.
Roll out the dough and cut out cookies more than 1 an inch high.
Make sure that they are even.
Place the cookies on baking sheets lined with parchment paper and, if possible, put them to rest in the refrigerator for half an hour more.
In the meantime, turn on the oven at 170 degrees, where you will then bake the cookies for 10/15 minutes, which should NOT brown.
Take them out and let them cool.
Melt the dark chocolate in a bain-marie.
Using a teaspoon, place a little melted chocolate on top of each cookie and in pairs of 2, stack one on top of the other. Allow the chocolate to harden.

Ta daaan: your Oreste's kisses are ready to be enjoyed!

#tips
- you can also start with whole walnuts, shell and peel them and then chop them with sugar until they become flour.
- the cookies, when they bake, expand a little bit: space them well and do not make them too thin.
- the shape of the cookies can be whatever you prefer.
- you can also make little balls (always in even numbers) and place them on the baking sheet, then they will flatten themselves.
- be careful when baking: they burn easily, better a minute less than one more.
- even if they seem soft as soon as you take them out of the oven, they will harden as they cool.
- don't be shy with chocolate.

Greenwood

by Christie Michael, Hogarth, 2020

For lovers of nature and history. Or those who care about the environment.
We are in 2038, in a world infested with drought caused by senseless deforestation. Jacinda Greenwood, an orphan, works as a tour guide on Greenwood Island, a nature reserve whose access is allowed only to the rich.
How is this possible? And why does she have the same name as the island?
An old diary she found takes us back in time and then again to the present, like the circles of life read in a century-old tree trunk. And it takes us back through the history of the Greenwood family and helps us understand Jacinda's present.
Lies, omissions, and half-truths mark the origins of each family, a tangle of secrets and betrayals that falls upon four generations united in the destiny of Canada's forests.
