Serendipity

A look, a smile and...a glove! These are the elements that will change the lives of Sarah and Jonathan, who meet by chance in a shopping mall in New York City and spend the evening together, even though they are both already engaged. They decide to entrust their next meeting to fate. She writes her address on an old book that she will sell on the stalls the next day, he on a banknote. Serendipity means "finding something without looking for it"...will our protagonists still find each other?
A romantic comedy with Christmas flair perfect for one of those nights when you just want to snuggle on a couch.

Girl, woman, other.

by Bernardine Evaristo, Penguin, 2020

“nobody talked loudly about growing up in a council flat on a skyscraper estate with a single mother who worked as a cleaner
nobody talked loudly about never having been on a plane, seen a play or the sea or eaten in a restaurant with waiters
nobody talked loudly about feeling too uglystupidfatpoor or just plain out of place, out of sourts, out of their depth”

12 stories of real women intertwined in contemporary London.
They are alive, imperfect, real. Women told in their many shades of experience, colour, life, orientation, choices, work. Authentic voices with flaws and secrets. A synergy of personal stories sometimes revolutionary, other times more than ordinary, but always exceptional and as such presented by the author. We find a total honesty in painting these women with their flaws, failures and upsets, with all the contradictions that people often carry with them.
Without rhetoric.
