Today is S. Lucia!
Today is a special day in so many parts of the world that it is celebrated with different traditions and customs.
For example, a beautiful one is in Sweden, and you can find it in today's Ω-cooking!
Another one is in Croatia, and Oreste tells you about it on today's map.
Speaking of this tradition, our reindeer, who is always in motion, came up with a brilliant and beneficial idea!
You know that Oreste cares about nature and all the creatures that live in it.
She is conscientious about respecting the planet: she separates her garbage, picks up other people's dirt from the ground whenever it happens, and always tries to reuse everything she uses: cans, papers, clothes...
And you may not even know it, but this site used for her calendar...is polluting!
When she found out, our dear reindeer, she got a little desperate...and then thought of a solution. She thought long and hard, and stop making the calendar was not an option.
A compromise had to be found.
So she found an alternative to what is the problem: CO2.
For every visit Ωreste produce 9g of CO2!
And here comes the solution:
Orestes decided that she would like to plant some trees to try to compensate for what we produce and create:
You can plant your own tree in the forest if you want: Oreste would be delighted!
It is always a beautiful gift to give someone for some special occasion.
Every occasion has its own tree, and every tree has its own occasion, how wonderful!
You will also name it and watch it grow, getting updates from the growers.
But most of all, you can help our planet be a little greener.
Happy growing!
Oreste had another idea for those who prefer to get their hands dirty: why not do as the Croatian tradition does and grow a seedling?
Let's choose any seed we want, maybe we already have some flowers seed at home, or we can use the seeds of some fruit or vegetables we eat.
Take a container with holes in the bottom (underneath, put a saucer), fill it with soil, and put some seeds 2-3 cm deep. Choose a lighted place for when it sprouts.
Remember to water it lightly every day and check if it grows.
Don't worry: it will take a while to sprout at first!
Here's Oreste's: peppers!
A dive into the past with a new look.
We will all have seen this movie at least once, but this new version is worth watching.
Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. Four very close sisters, four young women determined to follow their dreams, struggling with the classic problems of their age, against the backdrop of the American Civil War. Although set in the 1800s, it's an intense retelling that brings real issues to the screen that are still relevant today.
And that March home Christmas atmosphere always beguiles and makes us wish we could experience their adventures, so full of tears and joy, once again.
On Netflix.

“I do exist, don't I? It often feels as if I'm not here, that I'm a figment of my own imagination. There are days when I feel so lightly connected to the earth that the threads that tether me to the planet are gossamer thin, spun sugar. A strong gust of wind could dislodge me completely, and I'd left off and blow away, like one of those seeds in a dandelion clock.”
Eleanor Oliphant is fine. In fact, in her little world marked by the hours of work, by Polly (a small plant she takes care of), by the "mother's hour" that she calls every Wednesday from prison, Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine. Until Sammy, an elderly gentleman helped by chance does not address a tiny gesture of kindness, which unhinges any certainty Eleanor has built up to that moment.
An intense story in which, together with the protagonist, we go deep into discovering ourselves, unhinging every mental prison in which we have locked ourselves up.
Sometimes reality is different from how we imagine it, and a kind gesture can make the difference.
